Epiphany of the day: I miss Battlestar Galactica.
Yes, I know. I have better things to do with my time that whine about a tv show just because it's on hiatus. But now that I am done with Who (which left a pretty bittersweet taste in my mouth, thankyouverymuch RTD) and have nothing else to watch at night before I go to bed... I miss BSG.
Why did go all obsessively fannish on this show? I wish I knew. It's not the genre, because I don't even like science fiction that much. I mean, Doctor Who I like because it's fun, British and charmingly dorky and because I fancy David Tennant, I used to love The X-Files but the actual sci-fi element was only part of it's charm, I read some Arthur C. Clarke and Asimov when I was in high school... and that's it with me and science fiction, really.
I guess Battlestar's appeal for me can be summed up thus:
BSG = space soap opera + cliffhangers of DOOM + political alegory + gritty action scenes + sweaty shirtless pilots + solid characterization + interesting female characters + good acting + really hot people + impressive soundtrack + cryptic prophecies, dying leaders and other mystical nonsense + devious imaginary girlfriends + awesome space battles
I don't know about you, but that's the sort of combination I just can't resist.
and did I mention the hot pilots? and the shirtlessness? and the sexy toasters? and the space pot?
Yeah, ok, I'll shut up now. I am not in the mood for meta or self-analysis so just have a picspam instead. No serious spoilers, no thinky thoughts. Just screencaptures randomly thrown together from the different seasons of Battlestar Galactica and a couple of quotes to convert some unsuspecting victims for people to get a feel of the look of the show and for fellow fans to join me as I impatiently wait for the final ten episodes...
ETA: While putting together the last images, I was struck once again by how Roslin's hair of Evil Dictatorship Presidential Awesomeness around late S3 is just too fabulous for words. On the run from killer robots and with the weight of the world on her shoulders, and not a hair out of place... |
